Karpekov

PhD student

Alexander Karpekov is a first-year PhD student at the School of Interactive Computing. He spent the last ten years working as a Data Scientist in industry before deciding to return to academia and pursue a PhD. His research interests lie at the intersection of applied machine learning, human-computer interaction, and data visualization. Alexander is currently working in Professor Sonia Chernova’s RAIL lab and Professor Thomas Ploetz’s CBA lab, focusing on human activity and behavior recognition using sensor data. He initially studied Political Science, then pivoted to a Master’s in Economics from UC San Diego, and later earned a Master’s in Computer Science from Georgia Tech.
